The Holy See, in
its Apostolic Constitution Spirituali militum curae, dated 21 April
1986, identified the following as subjects of the Military Ordinariate
of Canada and its chaplains:
-
all military
persons, including Catholic military of Eastern Rite, and the
civilian personnel bound by the laws of the National Defence Act;
-
the members of
their families, spouses, children, relatives, servants, if they live
with them at the same domicile;
-
those who
attend military schools, or who live or work in military hospitals,
veterans' homes or similar institutions;
-
all faithful,
whether or not they are members of a religious institute, who
perform in a permanent way, a task committed to them by the Military
Ordinary.
In addition to the
personal jurisdiction possessed by the Military Ordinary, his
jurisdiction within the territory of all military establishments is
primary.
